Have you ever bought something on a whim?

The latest thing I bought on a whim has to be my 150-600 mm camera lens. I’ve always wanted one but did I need it, no, but it’s nice to have. I remember having a back and forth conversation with myself before splurging on the lens. There are probably about a million more things I bought on a whim but that’s just the mentality of suddenly having some extra change ($$) of my own.

Have you ever bought a joke gift for someone?

I thought about buying a pair of socks with a picture of chicken feet on it as a white elephant gift last year but I fear I would be misunderstood on the joke, so I went with a self-care kit.

Can you remember the silliest gift you ever received (any age)?

I don’t get many gifts, so the gifts I do get become memorable and the most memorable silly gift I got was a few years ago and it was a pair of men’s socks at a gift exchange. Thankfully, it came with a receipt, which I could return the socks and get a gift card in exchange.

Did you have birthday parties when you were a child?

I had to look back at my childhood pictures on this one because my memory is contradicting with the pictures. Apparently, I did have birthday parties as a child in China. I remember on my birthday, relatives would be over at my aunt’s apartment and I would be sitting on the couch eating cake.

However, after moving to the US, I cannot recall there was ever a birthday party as we were always short on money and I didn’t want to push for something as luxurious as a birthday party. For many years, there wasn’t much done on my birthday beside a special meal at home. In recent years though, I began to have excursions for birthday like spending my 2022 birthday at Niagara Falls, 2023 birthday in Osaka, Japan, and 2025 in the mountains of Utah chasing autumn colors. For 2026, my mom wants to throw me a party in China for my 35th birthday, I guess we’ll see.
