Harry scratched his head and let out a nervous chuckle, “Uh, where is everyone, that,” Harry raised his hand and pointed seemingly at the ceiling before resuming scratching his head, “is a good question,” he finished the sentence.
“Well,” Harry began to list out excuses for everyone while Teri unconsciously started to twirl her finger around the loose piece of yarn at the bottom of her sweater. She was only half-listening while she tried to hatch out an escape plan as she was not about to spend an afternoon at a party of two people.
“Um, Harry,” she interrupted his list of excuses, “if I am the only one here, perhaps I should…go.” For some reason, she had trouble getting that last word out, it was as if part of her wanted to stay, “sorry,” she apologized before coming up with the most convincing lie she could think of, “it’s just… it’s Saturday and this is usually my errand day.”
“Oh,” Harry said, sounding dejected, “I see,” he said simply before leading her to the door.
