Six Sentence Story: Function

On Sunday afternoon, as Shelley was stepping and kicking to one of her exercise videos, Teri came out of her room, dragging her feet, looking like she hadn’t slept a wink the night before. The moment Shelley turned around and saw Teri, she grabbed the remote control and paused the video, “Whoa whoa whoa,” she exclaimed, out of breath from the jumping and stationary running, “you look terrible.”

“I feel terrible,” Teri said a-matter-of-fact, slumping onto the couch, “do you think Greg and the gang can function without me tomorrow?”

“I sure hope so,” Shelley chuckled, “we were without a receptionist for almost a year because we hired you, but,” she held up a finger, “you’re not really sick, are you?”

“I don’t know,” Teri sighed, “maybe I just need a day…or two to think, to come up with a way to handle this situation,” Teri folded her arms across her chest, “he ran after me in his flip flops and I didn’t even know it.”

Shelley sat down on the couch next to Teri, “So, are you trying to come up with a polite way to reject him or are you trying to come up with a way to apologize for running away and that you want to give this relationship a try?”
