On Monday morning, Harry nervously parked himself at his workstation, glancing now and then at the front desk, where Teri sits, waiting for her to show up so he could explain himself, but when the clock on his desk turned 11 and the front desk remained empty, he could no longer control his anxiety. Forcefully, he pushed his chair back and headed toward Shelley’s desk, “Hey, Shelley,” she didn’t look up nor did she acknowledge, it was as though she didn’t notice him at all, taking a deep breath, he tapped on her shoulder, which made her jump several inches from her chair.
“Oh my god, Harry!”, she said, clutching her heart, pulling the earbuds from her ears “you scared me, don’t you know you’re not supposed to tap on someone’s shoulder when they’re focusing?”
Harry threw his hands up, “Sorry, um,” he scratched the back of his head, “you haven’t seen Teri, have you?”
“Of course I have, she’s my roommate, you know,” Shelley said quickly before looking like she had a lightbulb moment, “oh, I see, you want to know where she is, well,” she wiggled her finger, gesturing him to come closer, “word is she’s not feeling well.”
“Well, is she or isn’t she?”, Harry asked but all he got was a shrug as he let out an exasperative sigh and returned to his desk.
