
“What is that?” Bobby pointed up at the thing sticking out the side of the house.
I followed my little brother’s finger and immediately took three steps back. “Back away, Bobby.” Bobby obeyed. As he arrived at my side, I lowered to meet his gaze, “You are going to pretend you never saw that hive, you understand? You’re going to pretend it doesn’t exist. You are not to tell anyone about it, especially mom.”
“Why not?”
“Because,” I thought back to the last time my mother saw a hive and felt a shiver run through me, “you don’t wanna know.”

I imagine the mom would use a stick and hit it until she knocks it down, not a happy thing to see.
