Six Sentence Story: Fire

Meanwhile, back at the apartment, Teri was mindlessly shoving licorice sticks into her mouth with one hand and YouTube video surfing with the other, contemplating whether she should give it a try with Harry or hand in her resignation letter and move onto another job. But what can you do, a voice in her brain said, you can’t act, you can’t sing, can you even dance?

“I…” Teri stuttered, but she knew that voice was right, she sighed and admitted to the empty apartment, “I’m a talentless hag,” and waited for the tears to flow but none came, this is how bad I am, she thought, I can’t even cry. What about cooking or baking, another voice chimed in but before Teri could answer, the other voice said, cooking or baking, ha, remember the fire that nearly burned down the building? If it wasn’t for Shelley, stepping in when she did, the building would’ve burned down.

Teri could no longer stand the negative voice nor the bickering, “Hey,” she snapped, “that was over a decade ago, I was a decade younger then than I am now, shouldn’t that count for something?”
