#SundayStills – #Solstice – Start of Summer

I can hardly believe tomorrow is the Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year. The start of the summer. I feel like I’ve been looking forward to this day since autumn last year but I’m not sure I’m ready for the 90-degrees and potentially 100-degrees days yet.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a memorable summer solstice. If I had and don’t remember, then it’s not memorable enough. This year, strangely, I’m not looking to go anywhere. With everything so much more expensive these days, I’m looking forward to just be at home, watching the progress of my garden.

This photo was taken a week ago and I’m still amazed at the rate my bush beans are taking over the garden bed in such a short amount of time. I planted these beans early May so it’s been around a month. I should’ve taken a photo of the kale. With everything else, I somehow stopped caring for the kale and now, the plant is huge next to the flower spinach.

I have no doubt with the arrival of summer, my bean and tomato plants will grow like they’ve been supercharged. Now, that’s something I’m looking forward to – watching my garden beds fill up with lots of goodies.

With the arrival of summer, I’m also looking forward summer flowers. The autumn beauty sunflowers have already begun flowering and I have a feeling these were a little stunted because of how I handled the plant but quirky-looking sunflowers match my quirky personality.

I’m also loving all the colors from the zinnias so far as one-by-one, the flowers begin to bloom. I hope to post my photos as more flowers bloom in my flower garden. The one I’m most excited about is the mango poker. Weird name, beautiful bloom.
