An Open Letter to…

See, I told you I’d post something else today.

My left eye’s been twitching and something horrible has happened. Anyway, I very much need to complain to somebody right now. My braces is jacked up while my orthodontist decided to take today off. So now I have to bear the pain on the left side of my face. So to be more logical, I thought I’d complain to my braces instead.

Dear Braces:

For the past four years, you have cause me so much pain. Today is one of those days. I was enjoying my lunch (noodles and chicken wings) when you decided to go crazy. You decided that I do not need to eat so you created pain.

Now a section of the upper wire is sticking out of my lips and I have no way to use the entire left side of my mouth. As well as that, the entire left side of my face is numb and if I can’t find my orthodontist to fix it tomorrow, I will have to wait until Thursday and by then, I’m afraid I might go crazy with the pain of barely being able to eat.

I don’t understand why you have to cause me so much pain. Why can’t you just stay put and do your job while still allowing me to eat? It’s been four years, how much more pain do I have to go through.

P.S. I think this is by far the worst.

I hope you think about what you’re constantly putting me through.

  1. Don’t know how “bad” your teeth were but sometimes I think tooth straightening and other procedures you can do to make your mouth look better are not really worth the time and effort, pain and expense. From my perspective, all you really want or need them to do is to function properly. Both of my kids had braces as teenagers but, as you probably know, once they come off, in order to maintain their improved appearance, retainers had to be worn every night. Since my kids have nicknames of “break it” and “lose it”, you can just imagine how long or often they have worn their retainers. Not! In my day, long ago, my dentist only gave me a retainer, not braces too. I don’t remember how straight or even my teeth ever were as a result, but now they are neither. I’m probably the only one that ever really gets close enough to be able to see these imperfections which are not that bad, especially compared with the wrinkles, mustache, and gray hairs, including in my eyelashes and eyebrows!

    1. It is definitely not worth the money and time to get brace, not to mention the pain. The reason I got it is because my dentist said my teeth weren’t functional enough without braces. See, I only have 17 teeth. I honestly don’t see the problem but apparently my dentist thought it was a problem.
