“Will Josh be okay, daddy?” Kylie asks, staring out the living room window.
“He should be,” Her dad joins her by the window.
Kylie turns to her dad, “But he’s so young and I’ve read foals should live in a warm place.”
“Don’t you worry, if Josh is in trouble, I’ll know ASAP. Come on, there’s an apple pie waiting in the kitchen. It’s your favorite.” Kylie hops off the window-seat and heads to the kitchen with her dad. Outside, Ivory watches as Kylie leaves the window-seat. Her foal, Josh, snuggles beside her. Who says horses don’t get cold?

Note: This is only my opinion. I have never owned a horse. I have ridden a horse and watched a documentary about horses. What I am saying is I don’t know if horses get cold but if I’m wrong, think of this as a cartoon and the horses are humans.

Lovely. Has anyone ever bothered to ask the horse.

I guess not, otherwise, the horses wouldn’t be out in the cold. Thanks for reading.

I enjoyed this story, I believe that many breeds of horses do feel the cold quite badly. Josh will need shelter and plenty of warm milk.

I suppose they are aclimitized to their area, wherever that is. So if it’s cold I think they’d be used to it, if that’s how it often was. However, if they never went outside such as dogs for instance — except to their business or a short walk — they would probably be cold. I wonder about the young horses though, who are less resilient and their hair wouldn’t be as thick?

I suppose, like humans who have live in a cold climate for so long would be acclimatized to the area. They wouldn’t need to wear thick jackets but babies are still adjusting to their new environment and therefore, they might be feel colder than the adults.

Great story Yinglan! I would think that horses do get cold, too. Josh’s mother, Ivory is going to keep him nice and warm.
