Of the entire hike along the Sardine Peak Loop this past Saturday, this view has to be one of my favorite views of all time. I love all the layers of greens showing in this photo and how the clouds are streaking across the sky.
I shot this at what I think was the most scary part of the entire trail. After hiking exactly three miles to the Ogden overlook, we decided to keep going because hiking three miles in 90 minutes simply did not felt like an adventure. For me, it felt too short. So we kept going and as we left the forest behind, I was suddenly out in the open.
I was standing on a narrow path with small to medium rocks scattered across the path. One side of the trail was the mountain while the other side was nothing, well not literally but it was a cliff which I didn’t dare to look what was below. I was simply standing on a ledge.
It was then I found myself standing there half-frozen, my legs were unwilling to move while my heart was pounding out of my chest. I was and still am terrified of heights but I must get through that obstacle at that moment because going back wasn’t an option since at that moment, turning around would be worse than going forward. So with teeny tiny steps, I willed my legs and feet to step forward.
This photo was taken at the widest section of the ledge, right after I conquered the most scary part of the hike. My heart slowed down after that but completing this part of the trail made me feel like I conquered part my fear of heights.
