#WeekendCoffeeShare – Firsts of 2022

Hello and welcome to my corner of the world wide web and the first #weekendcoffeeshare of 2022! Please come in, shrug off your coat and join me for our first conversation of 2022.

I don’t know if you caught our impromptu new year eve edition of #weekendcoffeeshare in which I told you I spent my week off from work scanning and digitizing all of my baby pictures. Well, that project is finished and I will admit that the project was fruitful as it had gave me lots of stories, which I will try to share in future posts.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you this week was a difficult week. First of all, it was difficult to return to work after 10 days away from work. I only peeked at my work email twice – once accidental and the other was on the night before work. The amount of emails was frightening to me.

Despite working from home, returning to work was like the first day of school after the summer break. My brain suddenly felt exhausted and didn’t know what to do. To make things worse, it was time to do month-end, which means I must finish billing and accounting for December transactions. Everything had to be done before the 6th, which was an impossible task in my point-of-view.

I don’t know how I did it though but I got everything done for one company and been tackling the other company on Thursday and Friday. I don’t care it’s pass the deadline, if nobody say anything, I will keep on working until it’s complete.

After clocking-out early yesterday to go to my dentist appointment, I checked my timesheet while waiting for the dentist – 50.53 hours. That’s a lot of hours. No wonder my brain feels like mush right now.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I was supposed to get the stitches in my mouth removed yesterday. It was what the appointment was for but the dentist said he packed so much into my mouth that he was afraid my wound would pop open if he removed the stitches. So he’s having me remove it by brushing it once a day and letting the sutures fall as they may while the rest melts.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you my next oral surgery will be in 3 weeks. Am I ready? Not in the least but I am ready to get it over with. The dentist told me it’ll be easy. He said the hardest part was done. I sure hope so.

Finally, if we were having coffee, I would give you a quick tour of my January 2022 indoor garden.

It’s amazing to think in the depth of winter, I still have fresh veggies to pick. I haven’t picked these spinach yet. They started taking off a week ago. I seeded the spinach on Halloween, nothing happened for 2 weeks. So I re-seeded mid-November. It germinated around Thanksgiving.

I harvested the lettuces early last week. Look at how fast they’ve grown back. The mustard green might need a light feeding. Its leaves are looking rather yellow.

I will have to harvest again before it becomes crowded. I have another grow bag in the garage growing spinach and lettuces and I’ve harvested 3 times since the end of October. Amazing, isn’t it?

There hasn’t been much noticeable growth for the rosemary but I hear it’s quite slow but the basil skyrocketed since I last showed it to you. If you’ve noticed, it no longer fit on the shelf and I had to move it to a larger pot.

I also had to move the thyme (middle). There were originally 4 plants growing in that little pot. Each plant is now in its respective containers.

Thank you for joining me for this #weekendcoffeeshare and hope we will both return next weekend.

  1. Wow, you’ve definitely been working a lot over the past week! Here’s hoping you can finish the end-of-month stuff before people start complaining. As for your dentist’s appt, I’m sorry he couldn’t remove the stitches. Again, here’s hoping your next surgery will go as smoothly as expected.

  2. Hi Yinglan,
You had a pretty big deal dental surgery, so I hope all is healing well.
I’ve learned the hard way that even during holidays, I check my work email if only to delete the junk otherwise the pile waiting for me when I return is crushing.

Thankfully, this last break, somehow the email buildup wasn’t bad and while I still checked, it was often only a few minutes in and back out to skim away the dross.

    Happy New Year to ya.

    1. Hi Gary, it’s healing well according to the dentist though I have been having a bit of pain this weekend and have been refraining myself from talking as it hurts to open my mouth.
I do wish my work email was full of junk, unfortunately, it wasn’t the case. Fortunately, my manager told me to ignore my emails for the week to concentrate on month-end closing.
      Happy New Year. 🙂

  3. I can almost smell the basil from here. I love to grow it. I hope your stitches will have all fallen out before your next surgery and that you can feel caught up on your work. To combine vacation with recovery time was a good idea, but it makes going back hard. You can do it though as you are a dedicated worker and see things through to the end. Just don’t forget to take care of yourself. Your body has been through a lot.
