#WeekendCoffeeShare – Fun Long Week

Hello, welcome to #weekendcoffeeshare! If we were having coffee, I would make myself a cup that consists of only a small teaspoon of instant coffee and fill the mug half-way with water and the other half with milk.

I treated myself to yet another Starbucks breakfast this week when I went into the office on Tuesday. It feels psychological comforting to me, like something that’s in my control as opposed to everything else in my life that has felt and still feel quite out of my control.

I tried a flat white and pumpkin loaf this week as opposed to my regular order of banana loaf and a cup of blonde roast. A little different since I found the blonde roast had too much caffeine for my taste. I felt jittery right after. The flat white tasted mostly of milk. I couldn’t taste the coffee and began to wonder whether I just spent $5 on a cup of steamed milk. Strangely though, I felt awake without the jitters.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I felt so tired this week and daylight saving was the blame. I had never felt so tired after moving ahead an hour before, ever. It was like I’m living in another time zone. I had less trouble adjusting to the 15 hour time difference when I went to China in 2017. What the heck is going on?!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you my photography composition class began this week. I tried to learn composition via YouTube before but wasn’t successful but I learned and understand so much about composition in that one night than I had watching 10 YouTube videos. It was like I had an eureka moment. “Oh my gosh, so that’s what it is?” I kept thinking to myself during the class.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you the week ended on a fun note. I spent Friday morning helping the department clean out old documents. You would not believe the amount of paper the company used to keep. “We’ve killed a lot of trees over the years,” my co-worker remarked. There were documents that dated as far back as 1995.

I finally tossed 2-years worth of deposited checks from my drawers and it’s great knowing I’ll never have to keep envelopes of deposited checks in my drawers ever again. Now I get to put something else in there.

After 2 hours of tossing paper into boxes and bins, we went to the movies. The department booked a private theater and we saw the movie “Uncharted” with popcorn, snacks, and drinks for everyone. I was surprised to see the large leather recliners in the theater. The last time I watched a movie in a movie theater was in 2008 when I saw the movie “Enchanted” in tight cloth stadium seating. How the movie watching experience has changed?

I hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of #weekendcoffeeshare, hope to chat again same time next week.

  1. Hi Yinglan –
I think the stops for coffee and even breakfast is a great idea in your case. Like a small vacation lasting only a few minutes but worth its cost every time.
You didn’t mention it, but I hope that means you’re healing up just fine post surgery and there just wasn’t anything worth talking about.

    1. Hi Gary, thanks for asking. My mouth is healing along just fine. I’m still on a soft foods diet but I’m basically back to before the surgery. 😀

  2. Oh, I love that you’re taking a photo composition class! Those Aha moments are so inspiring 🙂 The springing forward really did a doozie on me this week, too though it didn’t help we had to get up even earlier than usual this week for a Spring Break Camp for my daughter. I do hope you body catches up with the time change and you continue to treat yourself to yummy breakfasts and coffees 🙂 Have a great week!

  3. I understand about the time change. It affects me every single time. On the positive side, it sounds like you had a great week doing little things that give you more control! Keep it up; it clearly helps you find your “happy place.” Having all that surgery behind you helps too! Yay! Have a great week!

    1. Well, it’s not yet over on the surgery front, unfortunately. I still have one more to get the teeth implanted but it’s a few months away so I guess I will get a respite from that for now.
Thanks, I think I’ve found my happy place too, just wish it’s at home. I hope you have a great week, too. 🙂
