Friday Fictioneers: The Old Days

We used to live in an apartment in one of those old tenement building. On a hot summer day, to save a few bucks on AC, my parents would make my 8 brothers and I sit out on the fire escape until sunset to stay out of trouble. Bored and not to mention the humidity, we people watched to pass the time.

Why do I have 8 brothers? My parents wanted a girl and boy, were they determined.

Those were my brothers’ shoes and they landed there when my brothers decided to play “shoe toss” on a hot summer day.

  1. I can so relate to this! Not the 9 kids or the shoe tossing…but the parents wanting a boy and a girl…resulting in 9 kids. My parents were the same…they stopped at 5 when they finally had me. Cute story!

  2. Nine kids! I can hardly imagine that, but I’ve being researching my ancestry and I’ve found some HUGE family groups in my family’s history. And just like your family here, no-one in my family tree had adequate financial resources. I’m so glad I live now and not back then. Great story.
