Truthful Tuesday on a Thursday

After a busy April, Truthful Tuesday is back and this week, Melanie at Sparks from a Combustible Mind asks:

Is it compassionate for medical professionals to keep people on tenterhooks waiting for results, particularly if the diagnosis in question could be really bad news; but in general too?   

Honestly, no, I don’t think it’s compassionate for medical professionals to do something like that. It’s why I’m glad on my blood test results are now on an app. That way, I get a notification on my phone when the result comes in (usually within 24 hours) so I can interpret my results with the help of Google.

Before the app, I used to wait for days for a phone call from the doctors even though blood test results are usually ready within 24 hours. It drove me crazy and sometimes, the clinic doesn’t call me, which left my imagination to wonder whether it’s good news or bad news.

I think it was late 2020 when my blood test came back with low blood platelets and low white blood cell count. It turned out nobody told me anything that my blood platelets and white blood cells have been low since 2016. I would’ve known this had I had the app back in 2016.

Wouldn’t it be kinder to just shut up and order the tests and whatever to find out a firm answer before stressing out the patient?   In your honest opinion please.

Oh, absolutely but I’m afraid the only doctors who does this might be fictional ones like the ones on TV, at least I haven’t encountered a real-life doctor who would do this for their patients. If there is a doctor like that, please refer me to him because so far, my doctors are only treating my symptoms as the tests they ordered in the past had all come back as inconclusive.
