Sunday Poser #112 – What does the New Year mean to me?

What does this time of the year means for you?

What does this time signifies for you? Does it brings good memories or do you feel lonely?

What does this time of the year means for me? Hmm…

I am going to assume “this time of the year” signifies the New Year, not Christmas nor December as it’s going to pass soon.

Honestly, I am more excited about the New Year than Christmas because in my mind, the new year gives a sense of hope like great things are coming. For me, it’s the start of a new gardening season, it means the wrath of winter is waning and spring is approaching, it means the days are getting longer once again.

On the other hand, the new year brings this new sense of desperation for me because the new year means I’ll be another year older soon and yet I don’t have a life partner. I know many will say, “Oh, you’re still young, you have time” but do I really? After all, I’m not in my 20’s anymore but approaching my mid-30’s with each passing year. So excuse me for feeling a tinge of desperation knowing I’m at my age and never dated and don’t want to spend the rest of my life entertaining my mother’s every requests and whims.

  1. I met Hubby when I was 33 and we got married when I was 35. OK, I’d been married before and so had he, plus I’d had a live in relationship for almost 8 years, but those two big mistakes made me realise how lucky I am and that good things are worth waiting for. All the best for 2023.

  2. I have never been happy. Married 3 times and all were just long dates with debts and regrets. I have a house mate mate and his dog now and I have honestly never been so cared for and about. Life is a right weird business. It seems a complete waist of life. But I have 2 daughters and one has given me grandchildren. My sisters both our are alone with each other and no children. They seem fine. Once I stopped looking for happiness it found me. Once I stopped trying yo have my babies they came sharply on time. Once I gave up on marriage I found a friend. It does seem like you have to stop wording about things before things change. I too wish you all you desire soon.

    1. I understand. Having a spouse doesn’t necessarily mean happiness. Though I’ve never been married, I suffered alongside my mom through her second marriage to my step-father. There was no happiness and love in that.
To me, marriage doesn’t matter to me and I’m not looking for one. I think what I’m looking for is a partner (maybe a true friend is a better word), someone who’s willing to go on adventures with me and someone who we share things in common, someone who makes me happy, you know, not make me feel like I’m worthless and useless all the time. I hope to find someone like that in my lifetime. 🤞

      1. I am sure you will. The universe conspires to grant our desires. It is just reluctant to say when. 😊 and often we get something so odd that we don’t understand how we manifested it, but the universe has no opinion about your desires,if you have one and you are serious in a moment about it, in tine you will have it. That’s why they say, careful what you wish for. A silly thing like knitting. I remember wishing I could knit something properly. But after some small attempts I just stopped. When at last I had time, there I was buying wool and making up my own patterns of because I can’t use printed patterns. Now I knit. Who would have “thunk” it.

  3. Wishing you a 2023 filled with love and success! I’ve been married twice and now opt for a much more peaceful single existence. But that’s easy for me to say when I already have two lovely daughters 💗

    1. I think as long as there is love around, it doesn’t really matter whether we’re married or single. I’ve been feeling a little lacking in love this year so hopefully, I’ll find the feeling of love and happiness in 2023. Happy new year. 😊🥳🎉

    1. It somewhat started early for me too as I took advantage of the snow being somewhat melted for me to prune the fruit trees in my backyard. I normally do this around mid-January, not late December.
