Why oh why must there be rain on this momentous day? The director of the War museum stood by the window of her office looking at the dark sky and rain outside. It was still early and the special demonstration wasn’t for another couple of hours. She put down her mug of coffee, crossed her fingers and squeezed her eyes shut, “Please, please, please, don’t rain on my event.”
5 Hours later…
Standing before a growing audience beneath an umbrella, the director smiled while her heart pounded with nervousness. “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the special demonstration today, if you will please bear with us, we will begin momentarily.”
“Please tell me you can light it despite the rain.” She asked one of the re-enactment players.
“It should, ma’am, as long as we’re under cover.”
“We’re ready,” she spoke into her walkie-talkie. “Queue the music.”
As the re-enactment performance began, her anxiety calmed. It’s going to be okay, she kept thinking and watched the players light the canon.
BOOM!
The canon kicked backward as smoke billowed out of the other end. Only she knew there wasn’t a canon ball in there and she was glad to keep the secret so everyone could feel the magic of the moment.
