“You’re useless, you know that?” His mother said. “No job, no schooling. What you good for, huh?” Furious, before she could say another word, he grabbed a knife, ran it across her throat before he grabbed his jacket and left the apartment.

The law eventually caught up with him.

“Come on, really?” Candice says. “Can’t you do anything? Fragile things go on top, not the bottom.”

Grinding his teeth, he inhales and exhales until his heartbeat slows down again. After serving his prison term for manslaughter, he found himself on the streets until he arrived at this community service center.
