Share Your World – Week of May 8, 2023

Do you feel comfortable walking in your neighborhood at night?

My neighborhood may be safe but I’m not comfortable going anywhere after dark. I’m afraid of the dark and when I’m afraid, my imagination can magically conjure up more things to scare me.

When you shop for day to day things, do you pay by cash or card?

I don’t use cash, ever, unless the place/merchant/vendor is so old-fashioned that it prefers cash. Working in the field of accounting, cash is an accountant’s worst nightmare because it’s very difficult to account unless the cashier meticulously writes down every transaction. So no, I don’t ever use cash to pay for stuff because it will screw up my budget as there’s no record of the spending.

When was the last time you dressed up for a special occasion?

Probably 5 years ago when I pulled on dressed pants and a white shirt for my job interview.

Have you ever lied about your age?

All the time especially whenever I answer a spam phone call my phone couldn’t detect. It’s always someone trying to sell me insurance to cover my “final expense” – funeral, coffin, etc.

“Just how old do you think I am?” I often ask the spam caller. There would be a pause. A few more seconds of dead air and the line would go dead, that’s when I add, “12, I am a freaking 12-year-old.” The line would go dead at once. Sometimes, the caller would be kind enough to apologize. That’s actually how young I sound anyway so it’s easy to fool people.

Most of the time though, I try to lower and add a little hoarse to my voice to sound more mature. I used to like to tell people I’m a few years older than I am but ever since I passed 30, I don’t do that anymore.

  1. Like the age tip for cold calls. We used to get double glazing calls, and had a bit of fun getting them to go through their spiel about selling us a conservatory, then we say we live in a flat. Or we are on housing benefits and could they bill the government? Thanks for joining in.
