Monday Peeves – A Couple of Peeves

Paula Light is the lovely hostess for The Monday Peeve, where I get to do the thing I cannot do in real life – air my inner most complaints.

There are a couple of things bothering me this week…

My body is misbehaving again. My energy is zapped. Even after 9 hours of sleep, I still want to sleep. I think it’s because deep down, I know I can’t really go out into the sun. This dang UV ray is so strong here that every time I went out into the sun, my skin would feel like it’s getting fried.

The reaction is even worse than last year. At least last year, I could be out in the sun when it’s not even 80-degrees. It’s near the middle of June and the temperature is still in the low-80’s, yet my skin is already feeling like it’s on fire when I go out without sunscreen.

It’s ridiculous to have skin this sensitive to a little bit of sun. What am I supposed to do? Be stuck inside like a vampire?

The other thing that’s pissing me off this week is my mom, well, not as PO as the normal frustration. I can’t believe she’s comparing my garden produce to the grocery store. “It’s not as good as the ones at the grocery store,” she said the other day when I brought in a head of napa cabbage that weighed north of a pound. She said the store would never sell my head of napa cabbage because it’s too loose.

What kind of person does that?

This was the first time I managed to have a harvest of napa cabbages. I grew them last year but the earwigs got to them first, devouring most of the leaves overnight.

With all the vegetables harvested from the garden since May 26, you’d think she’d be grateful of all the money I’ve saved her for not having to go to the grocery store to buy leafy greens. I don’t care if you fake your appreciation or lie to me about how appreciative you are of the garden but don’t compare my hard work to that of a grocery store because fresh from the garden harvest is not comparable to that of a grocery store.

  1. Can’t do anything about the heat but you can tell you’re mom too but vegetable for herself from the store while you enjoy your home grown delicious and fresh produce

    1. Well, I think she got her wish after she forced me to rip out my vegetable patch tonight after discovering an infestation of cabbage caterpillars. 😡 All my hard work down the drain and she had the guts to say the garden caused her health to decline. It’s been a frustrating day to say the least.
