I have never been the athletic type. In school, every chance I got, I would fake an injury to get out of PE and whenever something bad happens, I was always first to get out. Screw other people, I’m more important. Me!
So when they came, with their mothership hovering above Earth, naturally, I ran for the hills before they zapped me like everyone else. I hid, in a place that’s never seen the light of day. For the first few days, I sat in the corner of my self-made bunker, writing about my day in extreme minute-by-minute detail, writing about what I ate, what I drank, what I did, but by the fifth day, the whole thing got boring. I wondered whether there were other smart people like me, hiding out in their doomsday bunker, or had they all been zapped by the little green men in tin-foil hats.
By the tenth day, I was bored out of my freaking mind. The curiosity and suspense was killing me. I have to know.
With a couple bottles of water and a few granola bars in my backpack, I climbed out of my hidey hole. Abandoned cars piled on the road, bumper to bumper. I suspected the drivers must had been driving pretty fast when they got zapped. Above me, the spaceship still loomed. Suddenly, as if it sensed my presence, a light shined down right in front of me. I sighed and raised my hand, thumb up like I was hailing a cab. You know what? Whatever happens next, it’s just another adventure in this thing called life.

Resignation to whatever comes next! You’ve written a very interesting story Yinglan. Thanks for joining in.
