Happy Sunday! Concluding the month of guest hosts, Janet from the blog – This, That, and the Other Thing – is hosting this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge with the theme of Overlooked.

Do you agree that flowers and lights are some of the most common things to be overlooked?
The pictures were taken in St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland. I’d bet most people visit a cathedral to see its medieval, ancient architecture, to sit and glance at the art work in its stained-glass windows, or perhaps listen to a choir practice hymns in a wonderfully acoustic setting. After taking a lap around the cathedral, I decided to sit down, not only to rest my legs but to get a new perspective of the church.
I saw the lights at first. I stood up, with my lens zoomed to the way I wanted, and got the picture. It wasn’t that the lights were anything special other than it being the primary means to light up the room, I just thought it was interesting-looking lights.
I saw the flowers next. It looked like it was under a spotlight with the light from one of the upper windows shining at it. I thought it looked special.
One of the things I wanted from my UK trip back in May was to get a picture of its famous phone booths. I’m not sure why it’s famous other than it’s an everyday sight and it’s nearly everywhere.
These things were such tourist attractions but overlooked by the average Joe who lived in the city as phone booths are no longer necessary once everyone had a personal phone in his/her pocket. Mom didn’t understand what my obsession with these phone booths were because each time I saw one, I would immediately take out my camera to take a picture before a tourist rushed in there to pretend to make a phone call for a photo op.
“It’s an UK symbol,” I told her. She still couldn’t understand it.

Finally, as much as I’ve tried to pay attention to the little things whenever I take trips to see natural landscapes, there are things that get overlooked like wildflowers and wildlife. I feel wildflowers are some of the prettiest and toughest plant life on earth. They are often volunteers from the seeds dropped from the previous years and must survive on whatever nature is dealt but they are often overlooked by passerby and travelers because everyone would be paying attention to the stunning landscape before them.

The lights are certainly wonderful and you did the right thing by capturing the phone booths on your trip. I would’ve done the same 🙂

The photograph of the lights is fantastic! I like to take pictures of lights and lamps too, but I don’t think I have ever taken such a nice one. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you, glad you like it. I think the trick to taking pictures of lights is to photograph them in a dark setting as the darkness highlights their glow. 😊
