Share Your World – Week of October 2, 2023

1.  When you were a child, did you have your friends round for tea even if it wasn’t your birthday? Were you invited to stay to tea at a friend’s house?

Have friends for a round of tea, that sounds like a very English thing to do. I don’t know if we do that over here in the states, mainly because I hardly had friends to begin with. Most of my friends from when I was a child was arranged. My mom seems to have this notion (even now) that I can’t do anything on my own even making friends.

I remember when I was close to befriending people, she went and talked to my so-called friends-to-be’s parents and convinced them to send their children to our tiny apartment for afterschool tutoring session. That’s all we ended up doing – studying.

I did end up having some real friends before I abruptly moved. Unfortunately, we lost touch.

2.  What was your first job in adult life?

I can’t remember when my adult life began. It felt like it began before I was even an adult. I’m searching my brain but can’t remember which of these jobs came first – ESL tutor or private tutor/secretary/driver/interpreter. They all began in the same year, I think just mere weeks apart.

3.  Do you enjoy shopping (food, clothes, gifts, etc.)

Not particularly. I’m the type to get in and get out.

4.  What was the best bargain you ever got?

My best bargain was probably my brand-new camera lens, which I recently got in Japan. It saved me more than $100 than if I bought it on Amazon.
