Note: this is 100% fiction.
I’ve never been a big believer of what’s the saying? Oh right, “A door may be closed but a window is always open?” That I may be down on my luck right now but somewhere out there is an opportunity for me to seize?
Down on my luck is what I was, having just been let go from a job I’ve had for a decade. It was ridiculous they let me go despite being a long-time employee but I wasn’t the only long-time employee who was let go, at least it’s what I’ve been telling myself as I search for my next opportunity online.
One afternoon, after filling out 5 job applications online, all 5 involved long-drawn out essay questions, I decided I needed a stroll away from the screen. I tried to be attentive while I walked, keep my eyes open for any “Hiring” signs. Be…mindful – as the youngsters call it these days – but that didn’t last long as I suddenly found myself entering a tattoo parlor. “What the hell am I doing here?” I muttered and was on my way out when I saw the neon sign on the wall – This is the Sign You’ve been Looking for.
Huh…
Just then, a man in a sleeveless biker jacket and bandana approached from the curtain separating the shop. “Can you help you?” He asked.
“By chance,” I said slowly, “are you hiring?” That was when he smiled.

Love it.
