It’s Thanksgiving this week in the U.S. and for as long as I’ve had this blog, I’ve always done a “Things I’m thankful for…” post but to be completely frank, if it wasn’t for this week’s #SundayStills, I just about completely forgot. Of course, I know I have a shortened work week but that’s about it. It was a chaotic week last week with road trip planning and a more chaotic weekend. I won’t go into detail in this post. It would ruin the tone.
So here goes – 5 things I’m thankful for in 2023…
Thank #1: My biggest thanks for 2023 goes to the garden. I am thankful to have a garden. It’s always a breath of fresh air when I wander in the garden, checking the plants, making sure everyone is happy and thriving in their respective spots. I’m thankful for the harvests – big or small – they were all treasures and I’m thankful for the memories and the beautiful closeups of the flowers I got to show off to the world.

Thank #2: My next thank is to work – particularly to the quarterly activity held by the department and the annual picnic held by the company as well as the one day a week at the office. It kept the cabin fever at bay and helped me to look forward to something each week beside the weekend. I’m also thankful that after 5+ years, my work hours is finally normalizing to a 40-hour work week.

Thank #3: I am thankful for this blogging community for providing me with a safe space to share my thoughts and inner emotions. I’m thankful to have cheerleaders and virtual friends to let me know I’m not crazy for feeling the way I’m feeling and that I’m not alone in this world.
Thank #4: I’m thankful for my yarn and crochet hooks. It kept my hands and mind occupied when I was feeling the jitters. I’m thankful to the motif patterns as they are complex enough to keep me occupied and not feeling bored.

Thank #5: As much as I like to leave out this thank, I can’t because despite it brought me a lot of pain, it brought me joy along the way and that is traveling. Even though I spent a majority of time having to defend myself against mom on both the trip to the UK in May and Japan in September, I still feel thankful to had gone on the trips. I am thankful for those moments alone with my camera and I am thankful to have gotten many wonderful photos.

You have a lot to be thankful for. Enjoy the holiday.

Yinglan, these are lovely photos. You have a rich and beautiful life, and I’m glad we are part of it. 🙂
I am also glad that you stepped out of the comfort of your garden to share your story with our Story Chat audience.

Thank you. I think the garden was what saved me and thus I can no longer write stories like this but this remains one of my most memorable story to-date and I’m glad I got some feedback from it.

I’m glad you can no longer write stories with such sorrow, my friend. I hope that your life, like your beautiful garden, get more and more lovely each day. You have so much to share. I’m glad we met and have become friends. 🙂

I’m glad too. 😊 By the way, I’m heading to Northern Arizona (Flagstaff) for a quick road trip next month, maybe we can meet for real then?

That would be lovely. Let me know when. We will be staying in Scottsdale most of the month.

We will be in Prescott those dates. So there’s a great possibility. It will kind of depend on the weather. I’m not fond of driving in snow! 🙂

Yikes, I thought I was going there to escape the snow though I don’t think the snow will be anywhere near what I get up here. I, too, hope it will be fair weather. 🙂
