No matter what I’m about write: this is 100% fiction!
Dear Readers,
What I’m about to tell you is 100% true. How do I know? I know because I lived it.
I was born almost 350 years ago. I was the youngest and always the underdog of my siblings. While my siblings were always the ones defying the orders of mother and father, I was the goody-two-shoes of the bunch. I obeyed every command and performed every duty as I was told.
It was the time before people grown fearful of witches and witchcraft, the time before the hunt. My mother was secretly a practicing witch and so was I. While my siblings were out playing and brewing mischief, I was learning and practicing from my mother’s book of spells.
One night, I was shaken awake by my mother. What I saw in her eyes was fear as I’ve never seen. “What’s happening?” I asked, fighting the sleep in my eyes.
“Oh, I’m afraid it’s time. We must go.” Mother said.
I could hear the dread in her voice. How did they find out about us? “What do I do?” I spoke with panic but before she could respond, I already knew what to do. Father had long fled with my siblings, leaving us to fend for ourselves.
As quiet as I could, I lifted a loose floorboard in the back room of the house and lowered myself down, where an open coffin awaited. Mother had always said, “when all else fails, hide in a coffin.” That logic never made sense but was mother ever wrong?
In the back of my mind, I could hear mother instruct, “shut the coffin and say the spell.” Honestly, I had no clue what the spell did. I was merely following instructions but next thing I knew, I was waking up over three centuries later. My family mansion had miraculously remained intact though abandoned. I have no doubt that it’s witnessed wars and destruction. All I knew was I was relieved to be stepping out of the house in bright sunshine.

Oh wow! A very good story Yinglan. Hope you can write more about this character and her adventures. Thanks for joining in.
