#WeekendCoffeeShare – Changes in the Garden

Good morning! Welcome, would you like to come in?

The daffodils are out. Tulips are officially in bloom! Compared to last week (first picture), the same bed is looking a lot different this week. I’m heading to the Tulip Festival next Thursday, I just hope I won’t be too late and I sure hope the weather will cooperate because it’s forecasting a 40%-50% chance of rain right now. 😡

It’s been a busy week. Can you tell what went on in the front yard?

After almost 3 years, I’m starting to hate the rocks. I can’t tell you how many times I also slipped on the rocks just this weeks alone. Even with 3 large beds full of flowers, it still feels quite empty for me. I want more green, less rocks.

In case you missed last week’s #weekendcoffeeshare, I potted up all those plants in the cinder blocks. Those pour sedums have been stuck in there for the last 3 years. I’m glad they are in some larger pots with more nutritious soil that retains water. I know these are desert plants but still, anywhere is better than the hole of those cinder blocks.

My original plan was to arrange those bricks in a 5-by-2-feet rectangle and put a grow bag on top but my mom wanted something permanent. So she gave me permission to get a new metal raised bed. Of all the dimensions I could’ve assembled the bed, I ended up going with 4-by-3-feet before dumping 15 bags of soil (almost 16 cubic feet) into the bed.

Yes, I did it all myself. My mom offered to help but I wasn’t going to hear her complain about her back pain for the next hour or the next day or the day after. I’d rather experience the back pain than hear someone complain about theirs and trust me, my back’s been hurting for a while. I’ve done physical therapy but all it got me was a gigantic bill.

The other thing I did this week was assembling a new compost tumbler. I got the largest size I can afford – 55 gallon or 105 liter. Again, no one helped and the tumbler is now full of plant debris from last year.

These are the flower of the Double Take Scarlet Quince. This is one of the earliest flowers each year and after 3 years, it looks like this bush is finally taking off. It appears my garden is at last behaving this year. Now, if only I didn’t have an aphids problem infesting my strawberries and roses.

#weekendcoffeeshare is hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer. I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂
