Six Sentence Story: Dial

Please note that this is a work of fiction!

“Don’t you touch that dial,” the DJ on the radio said in a commanding voice, “we will return in 60 seconds,” a car insurance advertisement began to play as I let loose a yawn.

It’s been ages since I’ve done this – so engrossed in a radio show so late in the night – usually, I would be asleep by now but since this is a Friday night and this is one of my favorite 50’s throwback comedy shows, I thought I’d stick around and listen to it before heading to bed.

But that was over 2 hours ago and now, the minutes are quickly ticking closer to midnight. Quickly, I double checked the schedule online and yes, the website indeed said the broadcast would be at 9 PM, has the DJ mistaken the time?

“And now, we’re back,” the DJ announced, “I told you we’re fast, didn’t I,” I somehow felt like there was a wink in there, “All right, I know a lot of you have been waiting all night for this, so here it is.”

Excitedly, I turned up the dial for the volume but when an unfamiliar theme song began to play, I knew it wasn’t the show I’ve been waiting on, that’s it, I thought, I’m going to bed, I can always look for this show on YouTube.

*for a second there, I thought your MC would realize that (due to the hour, or a miscoordination of the station) there had been a shift in their timeline. eyyiiee! don’t you hate it when, for no discernible reason, reality changes, ever so slightly?
