Good morning! Welcome to #weekendcoffeeshare, hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer, who is taking a break this week (so no link-up) but please still feel free to come on in and have a drink and a chat.
I had my 6-months follow-up with my rheumatologist this week and had the usual labs checked – complete blood counts and metabolic. The results came back and of course, the white blood cell count was once again below the normal range. It actually dropped again, creating a new low. Despite the doctor hasn’t called me back yet, I knew what he would instruct his nurse to say. “Continue doing what you’re currently doing.”
As I’m writing this, I can feel my eyes rolling in the back of my head. The doctor once again told me during our appointment that my low white blood cell count is not low enough for concern. I wonder what it take for the doctor to care.
I have been spending whatever daylight hours I have cleaning and amending the garden beds. The sunsets are getting earlier and earlier each day. As of yesterday, it was at about 6:30 PM. After next Sunday, it will be dark at around 5 PM as we fall back an hour.
I’m not doing much this year to amend the garden beds other than to move aside the mulch layer, apply an inch or 2 of compost plus a layer of good vegetable soil before applying the mulch. I think that should give the soil plenty of nutrients.
I didn’t do a lot of harvests from the garden this week, just some lettuce leaves and daikon radishes for one of my mom’s stews. I can feel the growth of the plants slowing down as the length of the day diminishes. We will officially dip below 10 hours come November 11, which makes me envious of those whose day length never go below 10 hours.
Can you believe this is the last weekend of October? I can’t believe the new month is almost upon us. I have been counting down the days until I get my braces off and it’s at last here.
I’m getting my braces off on Halloween – October 31. It’s been a problematic month for braces. I’ve been once again battling come and go toothaches and gum infections. Hopefully, once the braces come off, those will stop as well.
I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂

Stay well my friend. Getting the braces off is a cause for celebration. My two kids had them and they were so happy when it was time to get rid of them

I hope that the blood work will continue to be okay. It’s hard to believe that 2024 is almost over! Time is flying so fast. Congratulations on getting the braces off. I was overjoyed when mine came off. No more struggling with eating anything you want, dealing with those annoying bits that get stuck out of reach, the pain when they tighten it monthly, the frequent bruises, headaches and so on. Take care.

Thanks but let’s hope for stability in my blood work rather than “okay” because my blood count hasn’t been normal for almost a decade. I just hope the white blood cell count doesn’t fall any lower.

I’m glad October is almost done. Not my favourite month. Please look after yourself.

I agree, October feels like one of those season transition months, which feels like “bleh” sometimes.

This will be my second time getting them off. I had braces when I was in college but after 5 years, I had to tell the orthodontist to get them off as I wasn’t going to do the expensive surgery. I could’ve never imagine that after 7 years, I had to have them on again but now I am finally getting them off. It’s good to see this chapter of my life come to an end.
