Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #324 – In the Details

Happy Sunday! I can tell this week’s theme for Lens-Artists Photo Challenge is going to be a fun one as Patti is challenging us to show some details in our photos.

I’ve always been a detail-oriented person. I like to see every little detail or get up close and personal with my photos if I can. It was the reason why, even if I needed to make monthly payments, I must have a super-zoom 18-400 mm lens.

When I went to the Grand Canyon last December, I was a little disappointed at first because all I could see were these red canyons. My human eyes don’t have super-zooming capabilities. I wanted to see the canyons up close but obviously, unless I could fly, it would be an impossible endeavor. I was glad to have this lens with me because not only it allowed me to see the canyons up close but it also allowed me to take some unique photos of the canyons.

This photo, I believe, is from Osaka, Japan. I forgot the name of the temple as it was a last-minute addition to the trip. I think we were on our way to the Osaka harbor to ride the Ferris Wheel.

The temple was pretty old with few visitors. On each of the four side of the pavilion surrounding the temple were these golden lanterns. They may not look like much but if you look closely, you will see that on each one is a prayer like “be safe” or “be healthy.” Each one unique and for an individual.

The number of lanterns is also different on each of the corridor, depending on the amount of people submitting prayers, I guess.

I love flowers. My favorite kind of flowers are those in my garden, my least favorite kind of flowers are those in a vase because they don’t last. The ones in the garden are continuous. They don’t wilt and die within a week and then droop and drop its petals all over my table.

One of my favorite flower is zinnia. I grow several varieties of zinnias in the garden each year. It’s a must-grow summer flower. I love that they last and the blooms change as they age. For example, the above image is that of a zinnia in the early blossom stage and below is a zinnia that’s over-ripe. You can really see the difference in the detail.

Finally, I love to play those “Find hidden object” games. Those games really makes me slow down and look. Sometimes, I like to take such photo to make myself look at the detail when I upload the photo into Lightroom for edit.
