The Unicorn Challenge – The Wedding

For the Unicorn Challenge

How many times has your instinct been right? She asked herself. It’s always right. Never wrong. Why am I doubting myself? She wondered. I know. Something is wrong, off about him especially of late, but what?

She stared at person in the mirror, barely recognizable beneath the layer of powder makeup – foundation, concealer, primer, etc. – words that reminded her of things that would be used to fix things around the house

“I need some air!” She proclaimed.

It was like time had stood still for a moment before everyone dropped what they were doing and shuffled out of the room, leaving her alone in this large room in a part of the church she’s never been before. Inhale, exhale, she reminded herself as she crashed on the couch before realizing what she needed was some fresh air outside.

Grabbing the lower part of her wedding gown, she opened the door and crept down the seemingly empty corridor until she heard banging coming from the broom closet down the hall as though someone was trapped in there. She was a few paces from pulling the door and rescuing whoever was trapped in the closet when the door burst open. She let out a yelp as she stood still like a deer staring at headlights.

“How could you?” the words failed to form on her lips as she found herself face to face with her fiance and maid of honor. Instead, she said, “Really?” before fleeing the church via the nearest exit.

  1. Yes, go with your gut, every time.
She was on her way away anyway – now that sounds a weird sentence!
    Let me try again.
She was escaping already, this was just the confirmation that she was right.
    Well told, Yinglan.
