For the Unicorn Challenge…
“Turn…” I turned my phone 90 degrees and watched the blue GPS arrow rotate. We were going the right way but I was no longer sure. “Right?” I said it like it’s a question.
Sally and I turned the corner only to find ourselves gazing down a low sets of stairs. “What have you done?!” Sally shrieked, “We’ll never make it back to our lodgings this way.”
As I analyzed the map, a loud thump sounded behind me. Sally had dropped the 8 shopping bags she was carrying and she was sitting on the first step. Why did she entrust the walking directions to me? I can barely follow directions when I drive, what made her think I can follow directions when I walk? “Do you need help?” I offer for the hundredth time today.
“No, I can handle it,” she snapped, “You just concentrate on getting us back to our lodging. Now, how much farther do we have left to go?”
I turned my phone 90 degrees again, “…should be 10 minutes or so.”
It turned out, our lodgings was at the bottom of the stairs. We descended the stairs in 15 minutes because with all the shopping bags Sally was carrying, I had to wait for her. By the time we reached the door, Sally was panting like a dog in the summer heat. “Are you okay?” I asked only to have Sally’s murderous glare gazing back at me.

Ooh, I have a word or two I’d like to say to this Sally!
You create a vivid picture, Yinglan.
I think Sally needs a reality check!

I do, too. Sally should learn to use a map herself instead of relying on others.

Hmm…
I’m more puzzled about why the narrator is too precious to carry some of the bags for poor Sally, who is too laden to hold a map!

I think the narrator just wanted to help out.

This is so relatable. I used to get lost while walking

I agree! Walking directions are harder than driving directions for some reason 🤣

I feel like the GPS is more likely to get it wrong when we’re walking rather than driving.

I think it would have turned out better if they had worked together, but it often happens this way. I get lost in my own neighborhood sometimes, so I can relate to this one. 🙂

I’m usually the one following the GPS on my phone as opposed to complaining.
