#WeekendCoffeeShare – Winter’s Swan Song

Happy Saturday! Come on in and let’s chat! A big thanks to Natalie of Natalie the Explorer for hosting WeekendCoffeeShare.

Winter returned for a brief visit this week, causing me to had to haul my tomatoes and pepper seedlings and the sweet potato slips back inside the garage as well as put a layer of frost blanket over all the beds, just as the potatoes I buried about 4 weeks ago are emerging and peas are starting to grow. It even snowed hard on Friday morning, weighing down the frost blankets with a layer of the white stuff. According to the weather forecast, this was supposed to be winter’s swan song until October. I sure hope so.

I’m happy to see the garden beds looking so full this year. I have already scattered summer flower seeds in the soil at the end of last year. It’ll germinate when it’s ready but I hope the beds will stay this full through the summer. It will save a lot on watering since all the plant covering will keep the soil moist.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you my aunt and I went to the Tulips Festival last weekend. We were there for over 3 hours looking at all the wonderful flowers. I had a blast photographing all the varieties, although I’ll have to admit that it was a little far having to drive about 100 miles round trip but I thought it was worth it.

I did feel that we may have gone a little too early as some of them hadn’t open yet but I think that was only a small minority. Spring is in the air and I just love all the hope that it brings.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I did something I hate this week. I had to lend my aunt my car because she suddenly had work at the cookie factory and had to work from 2PM to 2AM.

I am very possessive of my car. After all, it’s mine and for my use only and I’ve gotten into so many arguments because of it. So I feel like it’s a thing that no one should touch but me. My mom went to the office that day and wouldn’t be back until long after 2 PM, so I didn’t have a choice. Of course, I could’ve told her to get an Uber but would there be Uber at 2AM?

The next day, I woke up and checked on my car. It was parked so close to my seedlings that I couldn’t even get past to get the watering jug on the shelf without needing to step on my seedlings. That was how close my aunt had come to hitting my shelf of seedlings. I don’t think I can ever let her use my car ever again.

I hope you enjoyed this quick update on my week. See you again next week!

  1. That sucks about your aunt almost having hit your seedlings with your car. Thankfully they weren’t damaged but it still sounds frustrating. Here’s hoping winter will have truly left indeed.

  2. Your aunt seems like a good driver. 😀 The more I read about your love for gardening the more I think how you’d love living in a village. For example I have a piece of land just next to my house and some land in my front yard. I think you’d use it much better than I do.

    1. My aunt hasn’t driven for a long time. The first time she drove my mom’s car, she backed into a pole. I just don’t want my car to have the same fate.
I would love to have a piece of land where I can grow in ground.
