Six Sentence Story: Balloon

“What?” Teri shrieked, suddenly feeling deflated, like a balloon that’s been popped, “what do you mean, you’re going?”

A few days ago, Harry had invited a group of co-workers to his house for a get-together, “Aw, that’s awesome,” he had said giddily when Teri accepted the invitation, like a kid spotting the toy he had long wanted at the store, “I’m so happy you can come.” That was when Teri had fully expected her roommate Shelley to have her back and go with her but at the present moment, after she found out Shelley was ditching her for some imaginary errand, she’s beginning to feel something at the pit of her stomach, as though something was giving her a good excuse to stay home.

“You know my Saturdays are booked, Teri,” Shelley said, plopping down on the bed next to Teri, “besides, I never said yes to Harry, I told him I’d try, but between you and me, I think he likes you,” she smiled.

“Ha ha, very funny,” Teri replied with a hint of sarcasm, “if he does, why would he invite everyone?” Shelley shrugged and left the room while thoughts began to churn in Teri’s mind, can Shelley be right, can he really be into me, feeling exasperated, Teri pushed a pillow over his face and screamed, why, oh, why do guys do this?

  1. Seems that Teri is about to figure out Harry’s motives, after all, it’s true that he likes Teri. I wonder if they will date, especially if the roommate shows up… At an inconvenient time, or something…
