James’ eyes shot open as an ear-piercing scream rang out from one of the open windows of the Hotel Frederick. He sat up, rubbing his head as if he just fell out of the window. Wait, did I? He suddenly wondered and looked up at the light coming from the second-story room, struggling to remember how he resulted in his current predicament.
Walking to the front of the hotel, he saw a stout woman rushing toward the front desk. “Call 911!” She shrieked at the receptionist, “Now!”
“W-what’s wrong?” The receptionist asked as she dialed.
“He’s,” the woman began, “dead!”
(100 words)

Yinglan, that last line ‘He’s dead!’ and we realize it’s his own death being discovered. Such clever, tight writing. You’ve built the entire mystery in 100 words, and that final chill lands perfectly. Brilliant. 💙
Much love,

I guess he doesn’t know that yet.

I guess he will find out soon, either when he discovers he can walk through walls or when his corpse is being carried out of the hotel in a black bag.
