I shot this photo when I last visited California in 2019.
To be honest, I was expecting this photo to come out a blurry mess. The sky was grey and cloudy that day and the last thing I was expecting was to spend the afternoon on the boardwalk by the beach watching a surfing competition.
Swapping the 16-50 mm lens for the 55-210 mm was a last minute decision because I haven’t taken enough action photos to be familiar with the camera settings. Still, I remembered from the many YouTube videos I’ve watched to set the camera focus to continuous focus and the motion to capture the action.
I think this came out all right with the main focus on the waves and water while the surfer dude remained slightly out of focus, providing an anonymity for the person.
It’s a great shot!

Well, doing beach photography means focusing nicely on the waves and the sand.
Which you have done quite well in this capture 🙂
