Good morning! Come on in, sit, and enjoy a drink.
The temperature has at last cooled down yesterday – from the 100’s to the 90’s to the low 80’s yesterday, all in the course of a week. I heard California is getting a ton of rain, I hope it’s not too destructive.
Overall, it’s been a long week and I’m not talking about the work week, which surprisingly was short.
It’s now about 10 days away from my trip to Canada and the east coast. This week, I found out all the seat assignment for the flights were gone. They all labeled “unassigned” despite I’ve already paid for those seats.
Frantically, I called the airline customer service. Customer service agents with thick Spanish accents tried to help me. “I’m sorry, can you repeat that? I didn’t get that.” I kept saying as I struggled to understand their words among the statics.
After calling in twice and being on hold for some 45 minutes later, I finally got the whole thing resolved. We have seats again!
That’s one of two things that went well this week. The other being I finally got the call on Friday from the collision center letting me know the parts for my car arrived and the repair can begin. I’ve scheduled to bring my car in next Friday, right after I’m done with all my appointments. I’m glad it went according to my plan.
I was going to call them and ask if it was okay for me to drop off my car in case the parts arrive during my vacation, but now, I don’t have to. I’m looking forward to having my car again after returning from vacation in October.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you I’ve had a sleepless 3 days, ever since I learned my friend took her own life via Facebook. I do not wish to discuss again in this post since I’ve already written about it and do not wish to have another sleepless night. You can read about it in this post.
Fitbit gave me a score of 51/100 for my sleep. That’s a fail in any book. All night long, my brain was either in planning mode (preparing what to say for the call to the collision center in case I have to call) or I kept picturing my friend’s broken body. I wish I could tell my brain to stop it and let me sleep. I know shock and trauma takes time to heal but this was too much.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you today is Mid-Autumn Festival (August 15th on the lunar calendar)- the holiday where we look up at the full moon, feast, and eat mooncake. This is my 30th Mid-Autumn Festival and you would think I’d be tired of it but actually, I look forward to this day every year because I love mooncake.
I was born August 17th according to the lunar calendar – 2 days after Mid-Autumn Festival. Since the family acknowledges birthdays only by the lunar calendar not the Gregorian calendar, it appears my birthday will come about 2 weeks early this year, on September 12th, as opposed to the 24th.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you I’m not sure whether to look forward to this weekend or not. I heard mom talking to her sister last night and it looked like she’s needing me to do something for her again. Something to do with their darn passport photos. Ugh…
#weekendcoffeeshare is hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer. I appreciate you stopping by and hope to chat again same time next week.

I wish you a lovely and amazing trip to Canada and east coast.
I went to the office this whole week and spent more than 11 hours in the office yesterday because of a company wide meeting, which took place after a gap of nearly 3 years.
And I spent this Saturday morning at the car service shop, as brakes were needed to be checked.
Temperature in my city these days is above 40°C, so yours seems like winter to me 🙂

For last 2 days, the mornings are scorching hot. Then clouds march in with rain and shower the coolness.

I don’t know about you but I find rain to often be a relief from the hot weather.

Unfortunately, the rain predicted for California is in Southern California. My friend in L. A. said she doesn’t think they’ll get much of it. Here in Northern California, we are still very dry. Have fun on your vacation. I leave on mine on Wednesday, a New England Cruise. Take care.

That is such a shame as the state of California has been battling with drought and wildfire all summer, I was hoping there’d be some relief.
Have fun on your cruise. 🙂

Hi YingLan,
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. There are no words that can help.
As a healthy person, something like that is just going to hurt.
I do hope your trip goes well. You could use some fun and pleasure away from work for a while.
Perhaps it will be a restoring trip as well.
