Friday Fictioneers: Toy Friends


“Here you go, Mr. Beak, Unicorn, Quick-Quack, and Mr. I-don’t-know-what-you-are.” After clipping them alongside one another, she pulls the cord, raising the clothesline, letting the toys to dry. “I hope my boy doesn’t know y’all are gone when he wakes.”

In that second, however, comes a wail from inside. “Ah damn it,” she mutters and rushes into the house. Her little boy did notice his friends have disappeared. “You’re looking for your friends, ain’t you?” Immediately, he stops crying as she picks him from his crib. “Don’t I wish I have friends like them.” She sighs and takes him outside.
