Did you attend Sunday School at your local church as a child?
I did but I wouldn’t call the church “local”. It was an hour away with smooth traffic and let’s face it, the traffic in LA is never smooth. My step-father worked as a caregiver for a family in the next county and my mom and step-father requested me to tag along to make some friends.
It was a church camp without the sleepover. We sang, learned about the Bible, and did some very cool crafts. I attended Sunday school for a few more weeks after camp but eventually gave up for reasons I cannot recall.
Did you attend after school classes ie. drama, sports, as a teenager?
If you mean more school after school, then yes, I did have after school classes, all the way until I moved to Texas. School ran from 7:30 AM all the way to 5 PM, sometimes later. All subjects were covered except math and science and the classes were held in my home.
Did you go to evening classes after you had left school?
Perhaps the most difficult school year prior to college was high school freshman before moving to Texas. My mom read somewhere about the state of California offering an incentive to anyone graduating high school up to 2 years early. Along with that, she also read a story about a kid graduating high school at 16 with an Associate degree.
So she managed to get me enrolled into advanced classes to speed through high school while enrolling me in night classes at the local community college. I was 14 with lots of health problems including hypocalcemia, fatigue, and overweight, yet there I was, in school from 7:30 AM until 9 PM every day. I couldn’t get through the night classes without falling asleep not even half-way through. It was the most difficult 3 months of my life and I ended up neglecting many things.
Do you now belong to any groups/meetings (ie WI, single (not dating), young Mums, slimming clubs, young wives, Men’s hobbies )
No groups for me. I have tried to join and participate in blogger groups over Skype but I couldn’t get any privacy in my home. My mom is always either shouting at me, interrupting conversations, or listening in my conversations.
It seems as your mom wanted you to be an overachiever and pushed too hard.

I think she wanted the money, too. There was a $2000 incentive to graduating high school early and unlike now, $2000 was quite a lot of money in 2005. Yes, she definitely pushed too hard.

Yes, probably.

Seems your Mum expected too much of you for her own benefit. It’s a shame she doesn’t give you your own space. Thanks for sharing your world Yinglan. It must have been very difficult growing up.

Yeah, it sure is a shame for someone to have to grow up with a parent like that. It was not easy growing up.
