“Thank you so much for updating me on the situation.” I speak into the phone that’s cradled between my cheek and shoulder. “All right, buh bye.”

What a fucking disaster! First day on the job and already, an ambulance had to come and carry a student out on a stretcher. Actually, it doesn’t matter what day it is, no student of mine should ever be carried out of the school on a stretcher because she had a “cardiac event” in PE. No one should have a cardiac event in my school, ever!

I look at the clock on the wall, 11:30. First lunch was 5 minutes ago, I better go do my lunch patrol before another disaster comes knocking. “Keep an eye on this place, will you?” I say to Gemma as I lock my office door.

“Aye Captain.” I roll my eyes. I know she’ll return to her game of solitaire in a minute and honestly, I don’t blame her. Her job is boring and it’s one I wouldn’t trade on any given day, not when I can be not only the first female principal of this school but also be the one to turn this shitshow around. Yeah, that’s right, I said shitshow because it’s the worst performing school in the whole district.

Not for long, not when Captain Ryan Gutierrez is around.

A loud bang jerks me violently back to reality.

What. The. Fuck!

It’s coming from that classroom. Without another thought, I push the door open and on a desk are two students making out. The boy’s hands were underneath the girl’s top, probably ready to undo her bra. The girl giggles and tosses her head back as the boy kisses her neck.

I’m on the verge of shouting “What the fuck” again but stop myself. Instead, I say, enunciating every word as clear as day. “What’s going on here?”

Immediately, the girl lets out a high-pitch shriek while the boy peeks from the side. “My office, NOW!”
