D is for Distracted.
I had a hard time coming up with this one because I wanted to choose the word “depressed” instead but I think I’ll save that for a later letter.
I did not know being distracted was an emotion to be felt but the thing is, I feel the sensation of being pulled in a million directions all the time. From what I’ve read, that’s being distracted.
You know what, the ability to be alone is truly a gift. I get to truly alone for maybe a few hours a week but those few hours are always occupied by work. These days, the moment mom is home, on comes YouTube – blasting at top volume. Then comes my aunt – home from work, same thing, some kind of video playing from her phone at the loudest volume. The last time I truly felt alone was in December and yes, it was a lovely time.

I can imagine how disturbing all that noise must be

Just imagine trying to sleep in on the weekends or even attempting to wake up a little later on a regular day.

If I were you, I’d tell them to get ear/ head phones. Let there be peace in the house.

It still doesn’t stop them from talking at top volume.

Maybe they have hearing problems? Those who can’t hear well talk loudly.

I don’t think so because if they do then the whole family has it as everyone in the family are loud talkers and listeners.

I’m alone a lot these days, since my wife passed. Too many people are in loneliness, and there are inummerable escapes for that. Being alone is an sweet art; alone means “all one.” The word “alone” comes from the Middle English words “all” and “one.” One can be with others and still be alone (in a unique way).

I agree, being alone is a “sweet art”. I was alone for a few weeks last year and loved it. My sanity returns when I’m alone while my mind feels chaotic when I’m around non-sensical noises. I don’t think being alone is for everybody, some relish in solitude while others may go crazy in it. I also think some can never feel lonely when alone but lonely when surrounded by people.

Yeah, time alone with peaceful quiet is a treasured time. I’ve been trying to get those who make noise to use earphones… I’m still trying. Sigh.

I am, too, trying to get others in the household to use headphones.

I use noise cancelling headphones while the TV set is on loud sport. For years I argued for a door to be added to the TV/lounge room but this is better. I’m usually listening to a book or my own TV or music. Works for me.

I now watch TV exclusively with noise-cancelling headphones because I just can’t hear anything with my mom’s tablet playing YouTube and the distance of the TV. I finally figured out last week that my TV can connect to bluetooth too and not just the Firestick.
