Share Your World – 2016 Week #23

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?

My first moneymaking job was when I was around twelve or thirteen? I don’t remember. It was only for one weekend but I got paid $9 per hour so it’s considered a moneymaking job. The employer was desperate, so she needed as many pair of hands as possible, even that of a child. I was the only child there, I can’t imagine parents letting a twelve-year-old work. I worked in the production line, meaning human conveyor belt. My task was to stick a piece of Velcro-adhesive on the cell-phone brochure, not the soft side of the Velcro. Imagine pressing a finger down on that piece of Velcro after a few hundred times. Ouch!

What is your favorite month of the year?

Considering the weather and where I live, I don’t have a favorite month. Here’s why:Four Seasons Photo

  1. January – Snow, ice, and below freezing temperatures
  2. February – slightly better but not by much
  3. March – Spring approaching, meaning rain, hail, and an occasional snow. Overall, still cold
  4. April – An improvement, weather-wise from March but the temperatures are too unstable and roller-coaster-like
  5. May – Getting warm but not warm to wander without a jacket. That’s the problem too. One jacket – still chilly, two jackets – too warm
  6. June – like now, getting blistering hot and as much as I like this weather, it’s dry and hot here, every breath I breathe in is like a flame burning a hole in my lungs and let’s not mention my mom won’t allow me to turn on the AC.
  7. July – same with June except worse.
  8. August – same.
  9. September – My birthday month! Temperatures begin to cool but it’s like May – the jacket dilemma
  10. October – Getting chilly – meaning I have to bundle up again. I don’t like wearing layers, it restricts my movement and the house is so cold.
  11. November – the beginning of the holidays and shortened days and this makes it a little dangerous when walking home after dark.
  12. December – Holidays, snow, and below freezing temperatures. Nothing to complain, right? Except not when you have to trudge through the snow to play Santa Claus to your neighbors. My mom makes it my job to deliver the presents to our neighbors.

What three things in nature do you find most beautiful?Forest

Water, the quiet and stillness, and of course trees.

List at least five of your favorite spices? (excluding salt and pepper)

I don’t use spices except salt, pepper, and a little chicken bouillon powder for soup base. My mom doesn’t either, maybe that’s why.

Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?Golden Spike 3

Last weekend was one of the best weekend I’ve ever had thanks for my UK friends to allow me to tag along their adventures. We (excluding my mom) went to the Uinta National Forest including the Cascade Springs Trail, the Motorsports Park, and the Golden Spike National Monument. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced quiet and nature like last weekend. It was refreshing getting away from the city and all the noise of cars and planes especially the planes. I think I’ve caught the nature bug now and want to go again. Since my mom is away for training, I’ve made plans this weekend to visit a trail just 5.0 miles from where I live. I hear it’s wonderful and the weather this weekend supposed to be cooler. I’m just praying my mom won’t load me with tasks so I can go. Golden Spike 1

  1. Really interesting answers, Yinglan, and lovely photos. The travel bug catches many of us, and I agree that the peace and quiet is wonderful, not to mention the sheer beauty of the open country. As for your weather, you seem to have very hot summers and very cold winters. In the UK, we don’t have such extremes, but we do get a lot of rain!

    1. We have a very clear concept of four seasons here in Utah although this year has so far been a two seasons years. I heard the same thing about UK weather from my UK friends when they were visiting. The weather sounds wonderful without the rain. 🙂 Thank you for reading.
