Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Winter

A typical wintry scene here – snowy mountains and an almost-full moon. It’s my first picture or pictures in 2020 since this is a merge of 2 photos.

I first saw this view from my car as I was driving home yesterday and thought I just got to have it. So I hurried home and grabbed my new camera and the 70-300 mm lens that came with the kit, snatched the keys, and started walking. I had to find a good angle for this photo, an angle that matched my vision. One lamp post, two lamp posts. At last, I found the perfect spot.

I took a shot.

Though the mountains looked okay, the moon was a little bigger than a dot in the sky. It’s not possible to take this picture without making the background or the subject too big or small. The only solution I could think of was to take 2 photos and then merge the two together using the Double Exposure function in Pixlr and that’s exactly what I did.

I can tell some people won’t like this photo. I know my family doesn’t like it – too fake, they said – but as long as I love it, what does it matter?

My photography goal for 2020 is to set out to make my images a little different or a little extraordinary because an extraordinary photo will leave a memory no ordinary photo will leave.

Technical Detail:

  • Both photos were taken with a Nikon D3500 with a 70-300 mm lens.
  • Snowy Mountain: f/4.8, ISO 100, 1/1250 second exposure
  • Moon: f/6.3, ISO 100, 1/640 second exposure
