Duneview, more like Doomview, Liz thought as she maneuvers her car toward the town of Duneview, population 123.
She was born here. Her father was also born here and his father and so forth.
The moment she turned 18, Liz dashed out of the town like her mother when Liz was seven. She never looked back, never returned to the town until now. Until her father called her on the phone and told her the words any daughter is dreading to hear, “Liz, I’m dying.”
Now, approaching the house, Liz knocks. “Dad?” Her father is pale, bald, and skinny.
“Liz.”

A moving story, Yinglan. I like the way you paint the picture of the meeting of father and daughter.

Brought back sad memories of my own dad. Beautifully written, and I loved the way you ended it.

It’s even worse being the one to call and tell someone their father is dying. Good story.
