#WeekendCoffeeShare – What a Mess!

Good morning! Welcome to #WeekendCoffeeShare, a place where we share all that’s gone on during the week. Grab a drink and join me for a chat.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I felt like a mess this week – constantly feeling overwhelmed and anxious as mom asked me questions that completely derailed my train of thoughts. Perhaps I’ve been a mess for a while and haven’t noticed until now. Maybe it’s the soberness from the lack of coffee that aroused my attention. Friday was the first cup of coffee I’ve drunk all week as I’m trying to cure my bout of insomnia.

Being anxious and overwhelmed doesn’t help with insomnia, by the way.

I found out I popped a stitch this week after waking up Wednesday morning with a bad taste in my mouth, the same bad taste I had prior to the surgery. I immediately groaned, you have got to be kidding me, the hole is back? It felt worse than before. I could not drink water without it going up to my sinus and down my nostril. I called the surgeon and got an appointment the next day.

Meanwhile, I headed to the office that day as there was an important team lunch I couldn’t miss. As long as I sip instead of drink, I was okay.

On Thursday, after the surgeon examined my mouth and informed me of my popped stitch, he crossed his fingers that the hole will heal itself and told me not to rinse for the next 2 weeks and he put me back on antibiotics to prevent infections. I think my body is slowing adjusting to the antibiotics because it’s no longer gurgling like before.

Anyway, Thursdays are always overwhelming. It’s the only day I can run any personal errands without mom knowing and the only day I can really do any kind of care for my seedlings – potting up, repotting, and even start new seeds. Mom is always complaining and “begging” me not to plant anything. She’s blaming anything from a sneeze to shingles on my poor seedlings and with the weather like it is this year, even if I manage to plop a seed into the earth, it won’t sprout because the soil is still too cold. Hence, I need to start everything indoors.

Did I mention it’s been extra wet this year? Whoever kept praying for rain and snow must be mighty happy at the moment.

I now only need to water my seedlings every 3 or 4 days now as opposed to every day or every other day a few months before. The air is wet and though I’m glad, it’s causing problems like my seedling damping off (green fungi growing in the soil), my inflammation acting up causing pain all over, and even things like towels take longer to dry. It’s quite unusual for us to have this much humidity but given the wet and cold winter, I guess things are off its kilter.

Finally, if we were having coffee, I would tell you I treated myself to a Chai Tea Latte and cheese Danish from Starbucks this week. Looking back, I haven’t had Starbucks since January 4. It’s probably because I haven’t been going to the office early. The weather have been consistently bad on hump day – the day I head into the office each week – disrupting my routine and causing me to have to wait until the traffic returns to normal before I can head out.

I sure hope this year won’t be like Spring of 2007. I was in Texas then and it rained just about every single day.

#weekendcoffeeshare is hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer. I appreciate you stopping by and hope to see you back here next weekend.

  1. Think it may be a very late planting season on this side of the Basin. Still under a mountain of snow… and snowing again this morning. Super low humidity (humidifier’s on “high” this morning); but the joke is that I won’t have to irrigate the lawn until August.

Good wishes with the popped stitch thing. Sounds like a real nuisance.

    1. It’s definitely going to be late here this year. My backyard is still under ice this morning, so thick I can walk on it without creating a footprint. What’s worse is everything – bricks, grow bags, etc. – is sticking to the ground because it’s been so cold and icy.
Good luck with your planting this year, I have a feeling we both have a while to go before we can really do any planting.

  2. What a week! I’m really sorry about your stitches. I hope this time does the trick. Hold firm on the planting. This is a major hobby for you and you should be able to relax and enjoy it. Also, I hope it dries out a little there.
