Before I change the photo topic from China to Canada, I want to share one more picture I took in China. That was shot in China’s Grand Canyon, as I hobbled along the trail. What to say about this photo? Hmm… Beautiful name, weird translation for the safety sign.

What is this man pulling? He is pulling ginger to make ginger candy, a specialty of the Zhangjiajie, Hunan region. I shot this on the second night of my recent road trip. I found it interesting that this ginger candy resembled nothing like the ones my mom buys in Asian markets in the U.S. Therefore, I must get some of these. In fact, I’ll show you another picture of these ginger candies as a bonus for today’s post.

After it’s been pulled long enough, the ginger is cut into bite-size pieces and hardened. The spiciness of the candy is dependent on the age of the ginger, the older the ginger is, the more spicy the candies will turn out. To be honest, I couldn’t take any of it. The candies were too spicy for me. I felt like my mouth was on fire.

Here are some of the photos I’ve taken recently which involves looking at something from the side. I hope you enjoy my selection.

This was shot at my last visit to the ranch. Just when I thought I’ve run out of things to shoot, this butterfly surprised me. For almost 10 minutes, I was playing Capture the Butterfly in pictures. And I did. This is just one of many photographs I’ve captured of the beautiful creature.

I got this on Orange Isle (橘子洲头) in Changsha (长沙) on the first day of my road trip last week. I don’t know what kind of flower this is but the color is sure beautiful.
This is another picture which I captured on my last visit to the ranch. It’s a peach flower. Peach trees are blooming this time of the year.
Finally, this is the side view of a mountain. You can see the crowd on the ledge. There’s always people everywhere.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m back from my 4-day road-trip to ZhangJiaJie, Hunan and now, I’m full of stories to tell and must write them out. Let’s start with Tianmen Mountain (天门山). Continue reading “Atop Tianmen Mountain (天门山)” →
