Career Paths

Daily writing prompt
What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in?

During my junior and senior years of high school, when I just need to fulfill my elective (aka fun) classes requirement, I chose graphic design, which, for a low cost of $15, allowed those classes to count as college credits.

Lazy Days

Daily writing prompt
Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

I think we all need a “lazy day” from time to time, to recuperate and recharge. My so-called lazy days don’t usually last a day but a mere few hours. I think if I allowed my lazy days to last the whole day, I would feel highly unproductive.

Hello October 2024!

Well, September came and went just like that.

I bid the 32nd year of my existence farewell and ushered in the 33rd year in as plain of a fashion as possible – by going to work and celebrated it with a simple rice paper veggie roll from the local grocery store for lunch. It was delicious and felt like just what I was needing.

As much as I wanted September to be a quiet, steady month, it was nothing like that. Work was incredibly busy with loads of emails in each of the four (some days five) mailboxes I monitored. There were days where it was impossible to fit every task into an 8-hour day without me wanting to scream into my pillow.

The third week of September had to be the longest week of my life as so many things piled into Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The back surgery my mom’s been waiting for was finally done on the 18th of September. That was also the day I attended my first live soccer match. I never like soccer as a sport but I discovered the reason when I went to the game. It was the commentary and the ads that turned me off of the sport when I watched it on TV. It’s less boring and more exciting when watching in person.

My mom was discharged the next day. After spending a week on the living room’s sofa bed, I returned to her bed upstairs. After just a week, I have given up trying to take care of her. It’s just about impossible to take care of someone who doesn’t want to be taken care of. She complained of me hurting her before I even touched her, she criticized my cooking, saying it taste like her cooking, and she tried to find fault in everything. I was surprised I hadn’t lost my temper.

I ended the month of September with my annual eye exam. The ophthalmologist recommended I follow up every 6 months since I’ve been on my hydroxychloroquine medication for more than 5 years. So now, I have one more doctor to add to my list. As usual, I got my pupils dilated and I lost my ability to read for approximately 3 hours. I couldn’t even read the numbers on my car’s dashboard on the way home. Thankfully, I wasn’t speeding.

What to look forward to in October?

The biggest event in October has to be getting my braces off and that’s happening on Halloween. I’m so excited! Two years and nearly 5 months, I’ve had my braces on and now they are coming off.

October might also been a month of harvest in the garden. I’m planning to harvest the sweet potatoes in the next 2 weeks and the apples from the apple tree before the month ends.

My usual first frost is around the 27th of October but this year, it’s hard to say because we are currently experiencing record high temperatures for this time of year. I mean, I’m still in shorts when I should be in sweatpants, so that should be saying something.

I’m also hoping to harvest two more cantaloupes from the garden, hopefully those will have enough time to ripen.

It looks like October will be another busy month.
