Blogging Insights 3.0 #5 – About Page

This week’s Blogging Insights asks the question:

How important is the About page of your blog?

I think the About page is the most important thing to any blog because it lets audience know who you are and what your blog is about. From my personal experience, the About page was the hardest thing to write for my blog and it took me a long time to write. Let’s just say I didn’t have a proper About Me page until about a year after I started this blog.

It was surprising how hard it was to write a short and sweet biography about myself when I’ve done multiple Ice Breaker speeches when I was in Toastmasters (a public speaking club). I think the difficult part was that I had to keep it to a specific length because our attention span only lasts a certain number of minutes before we get bored and move to something else.

What constitutes the perfect About page?

There is no such thing as a “perfect” About page. Perfect is a relative term, which differs from person to person. Maybe it’s the perfectionist in me speaking, every post and page on my blog is a work-in-progress. There’s always something to be added, to rewrite, to edit. It’s never “perfect” because perfection signifies completion.

How often do you think an About page needs to be updatedand when is the last time you updated yours?

I try to update my About page as often as I can but just can’t seem to find the time to do such a thing in the recent years. I can remember my last two updates. At the end of 2019, perhaps early 2020, I changed the photos on the page and the most recent update took place right before new year 2023 where I added and subtracted a few details as well as updated some grammar since this was written almost 10 years ago.
