What is Father’s Day?

fathers-day-coloring
What is Father’s Day? What is this day about?

Honestly, to me, it’s just another ordinary Sunday. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a proper Father’s Day even with my step-father. I guess we just never been the traditional type but then what’s true definition of traditional?

In the past 15 years or so, even when my step-dad was in our lives, my mom was constantly on double-duty. Then after my parents separated, my mom’s double-duty as dad became more prominent than ever before. She cooks, cleans, mows the lawns, plucks the weeds, and even joins the army, doing activities people at her age should not be doing like climbing ropes and going through rugged training.

So what is Father’s Day, really? Other than the obvious answer that it’s a day all about dad, traditional barbecue, and the great sales at home improvement stores and department stores, what is it all about?

In my opinion, yes, this is a day dedicated to fathers but it is also a day we use to thank them for everything they do for us. Isn’t that true? But wait, you say, don’t we do that everyday already? I shake my head because I feel sometimes we don’t show our appreciation enough.

So for today, give your dad a sincere thank-you, give him a hug or kiss on his husky face, and maybe watch a game with him because this day is all about the thank-yous and appreciations.

Have a happy Father’s Day and a great day! 🙂

Piano Progress #2

Piano ProgressWell, it’s been almost a month since I began playing the piano again after 9 years and so far, I think it’s having a good effect on me. My memory is beginning to improve, my typing is getting faster, and I’m happier. 🙂

I’m making my way through the piano book which I used to learn to play the piano the first time and so far, it’s going fine. I’m already learning Amazing Grace, which is the last song in the book. I’m an overachiever, I learn the hardest song first. Besides, I used to play Amazing Grace a hundred times a day, so it shouldn’t take long for my tiny fingers to relearn the song.

Anyway, last time, I said three of my favorite songs to play on the piano 9 years ago are Greensleeves, Auld Lang Syne, and Scarborough Fair. I guess you can call them my childhood anthems. Well, I’ve mastered all three songs! Scarborough Fair was the toughest of the three. It took me a week to get my hands to play the right notes. The eighth note really messes me up. No matter, I got it at last. I just kept humming and playing until my fingers played the correct notes.

Here is the recording of me playing Scarborough Fair. I decided to use the “vibe” setting on my electric piano just because I think it sound better than the piano.

I’m not sure if the sound will be loud enough. I tried to reduce a little of the noises in the background but unsuccessful. I’ve also been trying to find a way to connect the piano to my computer so the recording will come out clearer and the background noise will be reduced to a minimum but as you might have guessed, school’s been super busy. Maybe later.

Thanks for reading.

Piano Progress #1

Piano ProgressSo it’s been about a week since I got my new (old) electric piano and so far, I’ve been playing it a lot and I think I’m improving quite quickly based on the fact that I haven’t played in almost a decade. My mom says I shouldn’t praise myself too much. She thinks praising oneself is bad but who cares. Sometimes, a little praise can go a long way.

I guess what they say it’s true though. “It’s just like getting back onto a bicycle.”  I got my old piano book back from my friend last weekend and so far, although my fingers are still not as flexible as they should be, I can already play one of my three favorite songs from the book.

Here is me playing the song: Greensleeves. It is one of my favorites and one of four songs that I used to play a lot. The other three are Auld Lang Syne, Scarborough Fair, and Canon in D.  Now that I’ve started playing again, I couldn’t stop humming those songs. It’s crazy!

It took me many tries before I got it down perfect, by the way. Every time, it was either a single note or a single chord that messed up the entire recording. I curse my bad memory and lack of confident fingers. It’s beginning to feel calming once again and I hope that by playing the piano, it will help ease my anxiety and at the same time, spark and flourish my imagination and creativity.

A-Z Challenge 2016: F for Friendship

Friendship Quote

You kinda knew I would do F for friendship, didn’t you? So anyway, I can definitely relate to this quote .

As I’ve said on day three of this challenge, I visited my friend, Kat during spring break. At her home, there were posters of pretty girls taped against her kitchen wall, she said it’s there to serve as her inspiration. I avoided looking at that wall during the remainder of my visit. Looking at pictures of half-dressed girls made me uncomfortable.

That night, after finishing my regular TV hours, I returned to my room to check my texts. Kat had flooded my tablet with texts about how she wanted me to do the Master degree program with her and then we could open a tax firm. Then the following text became about how I have to diet and lose weight, then about how I have to fix my teeth with implants, and how much I need a nose job.

The texts reminded me of my mom and how she’s constantly trying to plan my future for me not to mention, she criticizes my appearance too. It made me wonder, is Kat embarrassed by how I look? When I decided to be her friend, I didn’t realize it would require a change to my physical appearance. I guess what I’m trying to say is like the quote says, I’m not looking for anyone to fix me. I don’t need to be fix or my future planned for me. I just need someone who will be there for me.

A-Z Challenge 2016: D for Don’t Stop

Confucius Determination quote

I think this is a good quote for the topic because it kind of stand for what I’m doing at the moment. As some of you know, I was to move out last month but I chose to stay due to financial troubles and sometimes, I still regret my decision because I thought if I move out, I could forget everything and focus on myself for once but the truth is, with so much worries of financial troubles, I couldn’t focus on anything.

At the moment, I’m planning on December because that’s when I will finish my second undergraduate degree and hopefully have a better job. I know that December is still a long ways to go but I know that time can speed up if it wants to and I also know that as long as I don’t stop and keep pushing, I will eventually achieve my goals.
