Special Announcement: #AtoZChallenge 2021 #ThemeReveal

After a sucky and busy 2020, which caused me to miss the AtoZ Challenge, I am determined to make a come back in 2021 with a theme that had been circulating in my head since I finished the challenge in 2019. Before I reveal the theme for my 5th participation in this challenge, let have a look back at my previous themes:

Living Life Backwards

I had my monthly one-on-one with my supervisor this week. It went well. I told her the things I am currently working on. She was pleased with my speed at completing the tasks needed to close out the month (financially speaking). I also told her about the one-on-one with Mr. CFO the week before. “We talk about you all the time.” She said.

I feel so conflicted

I feel so conflicted at times when someone reminds me that I’m a grown woman and don’t need permission from anyone to leave the house or go do the things I like, except somehow I do.

Those Darn Meddlers…

Credit: Southern Living

I have a problem with people meddling into people’s lives. Isn’t there a saying – “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”? I think this applies to meddling as well. According to my personal experience and all those movies and TV shows I’ve watched over the year, I don’t think there’s ever been a scenario where meddling ended well. Yeah, I understand sometimes we want to wish others well but meddling often make matters worse.

Have you ever ‘butt dialed” someone?  (‘butt dialed’ means have you ever made a phone call that you weren’t aware of making, because the buttons on the phone got pushed by your sitting on them (in your pocket) OR having something in your handbag press against them?)

My Current Dilemma

This prompt word for this week’s Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge is Divorce. For the past few weeks, I have been dealing with something that has something with my mom’s divorce from my step-dad. It’s been weighing on me and I’m hoping to talk to someone about this. Alas, there’s literally no one I can talk to in my real life about this.

If the government offered to suspend all laws, and law enforcement for 24 hours, letting you (and everybody else) do whatever you wish… Would you be in favor of it, or not?  (Credit for this question goes to Cyranny and her Daily Quickie Question)

Is it necessary to trust someone you like?  (friends, acquaintances or co-workers with whom you have no familial ties)

No. As my former co-worker used to say, “Trust must be earned.”

Do you hold grudges?   What do you do when someone really irritates you?

I do hold grudges sometimes. Not that I want to. There are some things that’s easy to forgive but hard to forget.

When someone really irritates me, I try to vent, get my anger out in the open before the anger turns to full-blown meltdown. If you follow my blog long enough, you’d know I vent my anger right here since I can’t do it in real life.

What’s the most sensible thing you’ve heard someone say?

It’s better to live in cooler climates than warmer climates because you can layer up to keep warm. In warmer climates, you cannot shed layers, otherwise, you would end up barenaked.

Is crying a sign of weakness or strength in adults?

No, crying is a bodily function and it certainly does not show weakness in anyone.

Why do we dream?

I believe we dream because our minds are trying to tell us something, something we may not be aware when we’re conscious, or when we are having trouble pinpointing our desires even if it’s temporary.

What is your favorite type of cookie (they’re called biscuits in Europe I believe)?

There are two kinds of cookies I love – the soft, melt-in-your-mouth cookies and the cakey cookies. My favorites are snickerdoodle and my homemade chocolate chip cookies especially if they’re still warm.

Do you enjoy skiing or ice skating or if it’s warm where you are, hiking or enjoying outdoor sports?

In the recent years, I have become somewhat of an avid hiker though I’m still mostly sticking to easy and moderate level hiking trails – the difficulty is based on alltrails.com.

I would love to try snowshoeing in the back-country. I can imagine it’d be fun and different.

I tried skiing a few years ago. It was a painful experience because I haven’t had the calcium accumulation taken out of my leg which had caused a lot of pain walking in the ski boots. I would love to try again though as I’d think it won’t be as painful now as before.

Do you give to charities or homeless that you might encounter, during this time of year, more than you do otherwise?

I donate when I can – usually to either nature conservation agencies or World Wildlife Fund – it doesn’t matter the time of the year. When I have some spare change, I would donate.

What is the most enjoyable activity you engage in during December?  Is it a tradition for you and your family?

Office parties and the 12-days of Christmas hosted yearly by my department.

Is it sad to say those are the only things I enjoy about December? Being from China, my family doesn’t celebrate Christmas or any of the year-end holidays and my mom’s always bitter during this time of the year because there’s always problems with one of her two tenants during November or December.

What changes will C-19 bring to your festive celebrations this year?

All the fun holiday activities at work got canceled – year-end company party has moved to virtual, 12 days of Christmas is canceled, and departmental Christmas dinner has become ordering from DoorDash and virtually sharing meals over some unpredictable and limited internet bandwidths.

Creating a Container Garden…

Almost 3 years ago, I moved into my current home. There were raised beds in the backyard and the front yard was incredibly bare except for a Japanese Maple tree which my mom has threatened to cut it down many times since and I have to keep reminding her that this is my house, not hers.

2 years ago, I started creating my garden. I planted 2 cherry trees, 2 plum trees, 3 strawberry plants, and 6 dahlia bulbs hoping to stop my neighbors’ weeds from invading my yard.
